Earthquake resistant structures are used widely to negate the disastrous effects in earthquake prone regions.

Two days back there was a massive earthquake of 7.8 scale near Christchurch New Zealand. Aftermath of this earthquake can be seen in pictures below.

Earthquake engineering is on the rise as it is the only way we can design Earthquake resistant structures. This video below demonstrate this concept using a prototype. It is clearly seen that structure with damping devices has lesser number of vibrations. Furthermore maximum deflection is also considerably less.
