This video tutorial by Dr. Structure provides an insight of support settlement. Support Settlement is quite common in bridge structures where support settles after construction of bridge if proper soil investigation is not carried out.

When support settles it becomes necessary to calculate its effects on structure i-e forces and displacements. In this particular example a bridge girder is considered having pin support at center. We want to calculate member forces and support due to settlement of this pin support by 50mm.  Slope deflection method is used in this tutorial.
