As we all know that shear force and bending moment are key factors in designing members so it is imperative to have basic idea of how these SFD and BMD are drawn.
Every design process requires certain parameters in order to design the capacity of members. These parameters serve as input in design process and at the end you get cross-sectional and material properties.
This video uses graphical approach to show how analysis of a simply supported beam is done and shear force and Bending moment diagram is drawn. Conventions are same as that of used in softwares like etabs and sap2000. Bending Moment is positive downward in order to better explain where we should place reinforcement. Design process is not shown in this video as it will be considered in next series of lectures.
